Ubuntu Today - Unity Coverflow inclusion in Ubuntu 12.04 triggers more debates

Unity Coverflow inclusion in Ubuntu 12.04 triggers more debates
Unity

Unity Coverflow is definitely a surprise on Ubuntu field that triggers serious discussions among various Ubuntu developers, talks aimed at answering mainly one question: Will the Coverflow land in Ubuntu 12.04?

We presented yesterday the needed parameters that are to be satisfied in order for Coverflow to be included in Ubuntu, objectives drawn by Ubuntu's John Lea (heavily involved in design), but, shortly after, have appeared various opinions, both favorable and against.

Ubuntu's David Barth stated his against approach, conclusion based on Ubuntu 12.04's quality standards, "the costs of accepting that feature is significant: impact on design, on platform, on unity-2d: I'd rather not add more to the feature development overhead and instead focus on getting higher quality for the LTS".

Ubuntu's Sebastian Bacher, after testing the above features, concluded that Unity Coverflow "didn't have visible performances issues", "didn't have a visible impact on startup time" and "worked quite nicely".

Although bearing a negative vote, Ubuntu's Tim Penhey is to agree after "sufficient testing" and "design sign-off".

At the moment there are three votes FOR and two votes AGAINST.

Worth mentioning
Unity Coverflow has appeared as a surprise for both users and developers, being developed in Ubuntu's Jason Smith's spare time.
