GNOME Contacts 3.3.90 released with improved UI and new features

The new redesigned GNOME applications have started to land in Ubuntu, and, shortly, after the revamped GNOME Documents, just now, GNOME Contacts has been updated to version 3.3.90 bringing new UI refinements, as well as new features.

What is new in GNOME Contacts 3.3.90?

  • at first launch, there is a new dialog following two approaches: Online Accounts (handles online accounts, like Google and Windows Live) and Local Address Book.
    Selecting Online Accounts opens GNOME Online Accounts.
  • improved new contact dialog

  • redesigned Select Picture dialog
  • various UI improvements with monochrome icons, following the new GNOME Design-approach
  • new icon
  • How do we install GNOME Contacts 3.3.90?
    The application is available in Ubuntu 12.04's Ubuntu Software Center (no PPA required).

    Worth mentioning
    The account configuration dialog appears only once when on first launch, meaning, if one chooses Use Local Address Book, the app will always open only with local contacts.

    In order to restore (on next launch) the configuration dialog (to be able to select Online Accounts):

    • install dconf-editor

      sudo apt-get install dconf-tools

    • open dconf-editor, navigate to org-->gnome-->Contacts-->uncheck did-initial-setup
