Yesterday we showed you how to manually install customized desktop themes in Ubuntu 11.10. Today, we're going to show you how to do the same with Icon themes in Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is beautiful and the default theme is great, but you don't have to settle for just a great theme. With many sites offering free desktop and icon themes, you now have the opportunity to make your system shine and this tutorial will help you.
This brief tutorial shows you how to install customized desktop icon themes in Ubuntu 11.10.

To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below to install Gnome Tweak Tool.
sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
Next, run the commands below to create an icons folder in your home directory. This folder will contain all customized icon themes for your profile.
mkdir ~/.icons
Now that you've created an icons folder, go and begin downloading free themes for your desktop.
The first place to look is at Gnome Look. This site has thousands of themes to download and install.
When prompted with the screen below, select 'Open with Archive Manager (default)'
Then click 'Extract' from the top menu.
Next, press Ctrl – H on your keyboard to unhide all hidden files and folders in your home directory. Select the 'Icons' folder and extract the files there.
After that, go to Dash and find 'Advanced Settings'
Finally, click on 'Theme –> Icon theme' and choose the theme you want.
